TelEm customers, staff treated on Telecom Day

Telecom Day in St.Maarten

Customers of St. Maarten Telephone Group of Companies TelEm Group were treated to snacks and drinks at the company's main locations in Philipsburg, Simpson Bay and the Le Grand Marche shopping centre Friday as a token of appreciation on World Telecommunication Day, TelEm said.

TelEm's management and personnel association organized the customer appreciation treats. The group also worked out a special Happy Hour after work yesterday for TelEm staffers to enjoy, Corporate Communicate Officer for TelEm Joe Dominique wrote in a press statement. Information Technology Day and World Telecommunication Day are both celebrated on the same day.

Personnel Association President Stanley Faneyte thanked members of his board and the association for their input and promised more events for personnel in the coming weeks and months. He also thanked the personnel for a great turnout to celebrate the day set aside for telecommunication workers.

TelEm Group Director Edward Benjamin, in a brief address on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Technology Day, challenged personnel and management to live by this year's theme: "Connecting those with disabilities."He said access for physically-challenged persons had been taken very much into consideration in planning the construction of the new TelEm Building.

He noted that TelEm Group had hosted a visit for physically challenged clients this year so that they could see for themselves the services TelEm Group provided. "There is a lot more we can do to assist those who are physically challenged and we look forward to making good on the theme of World Telecommunication Day this year," said Benjamin.

The new board of the TelEm Personnel Association was officially introduced to management and personnel during Friday's celebration, following recently-held elections.
