Hotel Association preparing forTaste of the Caribbean
Chefs, pastry chefs and bartenders of all ages and experiences are being invited to compete for a place in the Anguilla national culinary team and junior national team for participation in the Taste of the Caribbean competition in September.
The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA) that organizes the team has started the selection process and is inviting all interested persons to get involved.
"Every year Anguilla sends a team of chefs and bartenders to compete," said Trudy Nixon Executive Director of the AHTA. "It is a highly important regional event which is held in exciting venues over the Caribbean and the USA. This is a great opportunity to get involved with a national team, to learn about competitive cooking and bartending and to enjoy some great travel and leisure opportunities." This year the competition is being held in Jamaica from September 11-13 and will be part of the Small Hotels Retreat organized by the Caribbean Hotel Association.
The AHTA provides travel, accommodation, registration and uniforms for the competitors that are funded by the Government of Anguilla and through fundraising events such as practice dinners.
Last year Anguilla sent a full team and a junior support team and achieved its best results for ten years coming in third out of 15 teams.
Catherine Niles, the Bartender who won a gold medal at last year's competition said, "I will definitely compete for a place in the team again this year. The competition was an amazing experience, there was a real team spirit and we met people from all over the Caribbean. We worked really hard and then had opportunity to relax at the hotel after the competition was over. I would definitely like to compete again and would really recommend the experience."
