Hotline Opens For Complaints About Public Transportation

A hotline for complaints about public transportation in St.Maarten has been established for the general public by the Department of Public Transportation CIB.
People with complaints can call:
(00599) 542-4519 and (00599) 542-4511
8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
Department Head Shervin Frederick said in a Government Information Service (GIS) statement that a number of complaints had reached his office, mainly from senior citizens who had been charged for traveling on a bus.
Senior citizens over age 65 are entitled to ride for free on public transportation in St.Maarten. Another complaint received is that bus drivers, after being flagged by a senior citizen, would just drive past.
Complaints will also be taken to St. Maarten Bus Drivers Association of St.Maarten.
Frederick added that people with complaints should note down the bus driver's license plate number for better identification purposes during the investigation.
"We take these complaints very seriously. The Government of St.Maarten is the body with the authority to issue bus licenses for the sole purpose of public transportation. If there are those who take advantage of the system, then we have to investigate and take the appropriate measures where necessary."
Abuse of the system will not be tolerated, he said. Complaints received from customers will be thoroughly investigated and taken up with the Bus Drivers Association of St.Maarten.
