St. Martin & St. Maarten Bus fare hike now in effect




Bus fare hike in St.Maarten



Commuters will have to dig deeper into their pockets from November 2007 while bus drivers are breathing a sigh of relief after several years of waiting for a bus fare hike. The US 50-cent average increase went into effect at midnight.

With the new rates, adults traveling from Philipsburg to Marigot, Philipsburg to Mullet Bay, Philipsburg to French Quarter and Philipsburg to Pointe Blanche (including to the prison) have to pay US $2.00 during the day up until midnight.

Minors will have to pay $1.00 With the exception of the Philipsburg to Pointe Blanche route, adults traveling the above routes between midnight and 5:00am have to pay $3.50 and children $1.75.

The night fare for Philipsburg to Pointe Blanche is $3.00 for adults and the regular fare for adult commuters traveling from Philipsburg to St. Peters/ L.B. Scott Road, Dutch Quarter, Belvedere, Sucker Garden, Middle Region, Defiance, or the junction of Welfare, A.J.C. Brouwer and Union Roads and up to the Simpson Bay bridge will be $1.50 for adults and $0.75 for children.

At nights adults will pay $2.50 and children $1.25 to travel these routes.

The regular fare for the so-called hospital routes - from Great Bay and Mt. William Hill to St. Maarten Medical Center - will be $1 for adults and $0.50 for children while the night fare will be $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.
