French Side Hospital Sets Its Goals For 2008
Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital in Concordia reviewed its operations in 2007 and goals for 2008 at a special luncheon on Thursday for the medical services and members of the Conseil d'Administration. Conseil members from St. Barths Michel Magras and Nicole Greaux also attended the lunch.
Hospital director Pierre Nuty listed the hospital's many achievements in 2007. Among these, some 29 persons had undergone training and a small Psychology day centre and a baby incubator unit were opened. The plans for 2008 include revamping the overall service and welcome to patients in the main hospital and in the emergency department. A new Psychiatric Department is to be built with 20 rooms in the old hospital premises. Also due to open this year are a Chemotherapy Department and a Psychology Centre. "Every year we are improving our level of health care to patients," said Nuty.
President of the Collectivity Louis-Constant Fleming was present at the function to congratulate the staff and wish them health and prosperity. "2008 is a very important year for the Collectivite as we enter the second phase, and it has its difficulties," he said. "We are in the midst of putting in place a new structure that does not exist and there is no textbook or database to follow."
Fleming noted that space was a problem in the Hotel de la Collectivite and impacted the recruitment of personnel. "We are dealing with a building that was built in 1976 for a population of 10,000 people and not 40,000. So we are seriously looking at renting extra premises for staff to work. We are also checking to see where everyone is working and implementing controls and correcting bad habits. "At the same time we have to deal with the matters of the Collectivite, the transfer of competencies, and so forth. But the good news is we do have a good relationship now with the officials in the ministries of budgets and finances."
