TelCell launches new service, sending video now possible

TelCell has launched a new service - Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) - which will enable its clients to send and receive pictures, videos and audio. Sales and Marketing Manager Carmen Lake-Reyes said the equipment for the new service had been in place for several months already and extensive tests had been done in preparation for the launch of MMS.

"We always knew that once our customers got used to sending text messages to family and friends, the next step for them would be to want to send pictures and videos," Lake-Reyes was quoted as saying in a press release. She said thanks to investment for brand new hardware and software programmes, TelCell can now offer full multimedia service to the public.

"Many people are downloading ring-tones for their mobile phones from their computers, but now with this new service, they can download ring-tones directly to their mobile devices and they can also upload their pictures to family and friends around the world," she said. Technicians, she noted, are satisfied with a soft launch of the service last week, when a number of personnel in the TelEm Group were offered the features for free testing and to iron out any problems. To launch the product and make it better known to customers, TelCell MMS is being offered at a pre-paid introductory rate of $0.25 per message. Different rates will apply for post-paid mobile customers.

There will also be a one Megabyte limit to the size of the message sent or received.
